A five minute stroll along the footpath through the sand dunes brings you to the beautiful golden sand of Croyde Beach with its many rockpools and the stunning sight of Baggy Point jutting out into the sea with Lundy Island in the distance.

Five minutes walk in the opposite direction brings you to the picturesque village of Croyde with its selection of family friendly restaurants and thatched pubs all serving a great selection of food and drink. Another firm favourite is Croyde Ice Cream Parlour which is famous for its delicious local ice cream which is served covered in thick clotted cream!

Croyde and the North Devon coast boasts some of the best surfing in the UK - whether you are a seasoned pro or a nervous beginner this coast offers something for everyone! Croyde has numerous surf hire shops and tuition is available for beginners at the surf schools on the beach. Lifeguards patrol the beach in high season. Or you can join a rockpool ramble and learn about the marine life of the coast. Details available in Dune Lodge.

North Devon is a wonderful area for buying local produce whether it be meat, eggs, vegetables, fruit, preserves, honey or baking from local farms and farmers’ markets or whether your interest is in paintings, crafts, glass, theatre, music, wine or eating out. We provide all the information you need to experience the best that North Devon has to offer.

Five minutes by car in one direction leads to the 3 mile stretch of Saunton Sands beach with vast sand dunes full of wild flowers and two international standard golf links courses and, in the other direction the beautiful Putsborough and Woolacombe beaches, all with the coveted Blue Flag Award, sand dunes and tremendous surfing.

A great centre for walking, cycling, horse riding and wildlife with beautiful Exmoor on your doorstep with its' herds of wild red deer, Exmoor ponies and rivers teeming with fish. For those looking to go a little further a-field there are many other family attractions in the pretty market towns of Barnstaple, Bideford and South Molton.

Dune Lodge is family-run by nature-lovers. We live 6 miles south of Barnstaple and manage our own private 40 acre nature reserve which is half ancient bluebell woods and half unimproved pasture full of wild flowers (including 9,000 Southern Marsh orchids at the last count), butterflies, insects, etc. There is also a lake, marsh area and old orchard. It is a wonderfully peaceful site and, for a minimum of 6 people, we offer a free guided walk to all our visitors. Please enquire when booking.
